Seattle Seahawks’ Win Caps Off Huge Weekend for Sportsbooks

While Tuesday morning water cooler talk will be dominated by the final play of Monday Night’s Green Bay/Seattle debacle, the bigger story is its affect on NFL betting for the entire weekend.

According to an article by Darren Rovell on ESPN.com, sportsbook managers estimate that between $150 million and $250 million worth of bets shifted due to the result of last night’s game.

Monday Night’s game, combined with a Sunday filled with upsets, resulted in a monster week for the sportsbooks.

The table below shows seven teams that received more than 70% of spread bets in Week 3 and how well they performed Against the Spread (ATS).

As you can see in the table above, the public hammered Detroit, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, New York (Jets), Indianapolis, Green Bay and New Orleans and was rewarded with a 1-6 (14.3%) ATS record.

Through three weeks this season, NFL teams receiving more than 70% of spread bets are 6-15 (28.6%) ATS.
