Monday Night Football Betting Trends: Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints opened as a 6.5-point favorite at the market-setting Cris sportsbook and, according to Sports Insights’ NFL Betting Trends, is currently receiving 67% of all spread bets. Despite this lop-sided betting percentage, Cris has been reticent to move their line to the key number of 7.

This divisional game is a rematch of a controversial week 10 game in which the Falcons failed to convert a 4th and 1 from their own 29 yard line before losing 26-23 in overtime. Both teams have a lot at stake with the Saints (12-3) trying to lock up the division and potentially a first round bye. On the flip side, the Falcons (9-5)  have already clinched a playoff spot but could still win the division if they win out and the Saints lose out.

As noted in our NFL Betting Against the Public article, visiting teams receiving less than 40% of spread wagers have a winning percentage of 54.4% since 2003. With that in mind, we will keep an eye out on this game as a potential Best Bet.

While most of the market-setting books have this game available at -6.5, there are a handful of books offering this game at -7 including Bodog and Easy Street. Earlier this week we detailed the value of keeping multiple books as we continue to preach the importance of shopping for the best line.

The following table shows the breakdown of spread betting percentages from our six contributing sportsbooks:
