John Henson’s Impact on the North Carolina/Vermont Line

John Henson’s Impact on the North Carolina/Vermont Line

Yesterday, we discussed how Derrick Rose’s injury affected the spread when the Bulls hosted the Heat, and today we will examine another key injury — this time in the college realm. North Carolina’s starting forward and ACC Defensive Player of the Year John Henson has been ruled out for this afternoon’s game against Vermont due to a wrist injury sustained in the conference tournament.

The Tar Heels opened as a 16.5-point favorite at Pinnacle and according to Sports Insights’ College Basketball Betting Trends, are currently receiving 73% of spread wagers. This uneven betting moved the line up to 17 just an hour after the line was released, but since then the line has been trending towards the Catamounts. The line dropped back to 16.5 within 20 minutes, and fell again to 16 just over 5 minutes later. Earlier this morning, the line was bouncing back and forth between 15 and 15.5, but Henson’s injury has pushed the line down even further to just 14.5.

The line history graph below, which is available to all Premium and All-Pro Combo members, shows how the College Basketball Betting Trends and line have moved for this game at Pinnacle.

As word spread that the Tar Heels would need to replace Henson’s 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks, the line at Pinnacle quickly plummeted, dropping a full point in under 20 minutes. As you can see, injuries can quickly shift the line and you need to be ready to pounce, so make sure to check out our College Basketball Injury page for breaking injury news.
